RHP MIKE VICARO JOINS SKYHAWKS

Sussex, NJ – 6/22/10 - One day after signing RHP Matt Salvato, the Sussex Skyhawks are proud to announce the addition of another pitcher to their staff. RHP Mike Vicaro, a four-year member of the Can-Am League’s New Jersey Jackals from 2006 to 2009, signed with the Skyhawks on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old is a local talent from nearby Randolph, N.J. The 6-foot, 185-pound Vicaro attended Bayley-Ellard High School in Madison, N.J. and later enrolled at C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and Montclair State University before signing with the Jackals in 2006.

In 2007, Vicaro’s contract was purchased by the Colorado Rockies after he went 8-5 with a 3.55 ERA and .197 opponents’ batting average in 13 starts and four relief appearances for New Jersey. Vicaro pitched in seven games later that year for the Casper Ghosts of the Pioneer League, a Rookie affiliate of the Rockies, earning a 5.73 ERA in 11 innings of work. After his stint with Casper, Vicaro rejoined the Jackals in 2008 and remained with the team until 2009, a season in which the right-hander made just one start for New Jersey.

During his professional career, Vicaro has pitched in 54 games and is 16-12 with a 4.79 ERA. He has more strikeouts (189) to his name than hits allowed (186) in 205 innings pitched in the minor leagues.

To make room for Vicaro, the Skyhawks released RHP Justin Dignelli. In seven appearances for Sussex, Dignelli was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA and four strikeouts in 10 innings pitched.
