SKYHAWKS SIGN FORMER MET DUANER SANCHEZ
The Sussex Skyhawks are proud to announce the signing of former Major League reliever Duaner Sanchez.
Sanchez, a 30-year-old right hander from the Dominican Republic, made his Major League debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2002. Since then, he has pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and San Diego Padres.
Sanchez was part of the 2006 New York Mets, a team that finished tied for baseball’s best record at 97-65. He was an integral part of the Mets’ bullpen, amassing a 5-1 record with 14 holds and a 2.60 ERA in 49 games. His season was cut short due to a car accident that resulted in a separated shoulder.
Sanchez pitched four scoreless innings in the 2006 World Baseball Classic for the Dominican Republic, a team that made it to the semifinals before losing to eventual runner-up Cuba.
Over the course of his pro career, Sanchez has a 19-11 record with a 4.10 ERA and 214 strikeouts over 298 2/3 innings.
